Tempe’s New Energy Efficient Golf Cart Fleet
Early morning on July 4th 120 new golf carts were delivered between both the Ken McDonald and Rolling Hills golf courses. The golf team worked swiftly to ensure a quick and seamless transition from the old to the new.
The new golf carts are equipped with a lithium battery which uses less energy, charge in half the time and require less out-of-wall power resulting in cost-saving efficiencies, less maintenance, and a more sustainable fleet. This upgrade in technology, yielding fiscal benefits, played a major role in the decision to enter into a five-year finance purchase. On average, the golf fund earns $535k annually on cart revenue which after the yearly loan payment of $173k nets the golf fund approximately $362k. After the financed repayment is complete in five years, the golf fund will own all 120 carts and reap the benefits of purchasing a sustainable fleet.
In addition, the lithium battery is also half the size of the older lead acid batteries and weighs hundreds of pounds less which means greater protection for the turf, one of golf’s most valuable assets. On top of all that, they are also outfitted with USB ports providing that extra convenience for Tempe golfers.
